99 Percent Hair Studio - Now at Bedok Point (with nails too!)

The last time I did my hair...

... was early August, 

when the hair had to go back to black for work.

Black hair was refreshing for a total of 3 months 

before I started itching to have some colour in my life again.

But work needed the hair to stay dark, so black had to do, and after all the keeping it dark and tying it up for work, I forgot all about maintaining the hair.

Until this:

Almost half a year since I last did anything for my hair, 

it was starting to show (and make me feel pretty drab).

With work wrapped up before the Chinese New Year, 

it was time to do something about making myself feel happier.

And what better place to do it at than the usual favourite hair place:

99 Percent Hair Studio.

They've moved out of Katong and into Bedok, 

located conveniently next to Bedok Mall (nearest MRT station: Bedok).

Much food in the area, plenty to explore (doesn't hurt that Decathlon is in the vicinity).

But I digress. It's finally time for the hair to get some much needed care!

I'm all about one-stop shops. 

More on that later.

Gone are the days of wandering from hair salon to hair salon, cycling through hair stylists (because I could never really find one that I trusted/enjoyed the company of). 

I love colouring my hair, and not many places do it as well as 99 Percent/Danson.

His colour know-how and mad blending skills are 💪👍😍

One of the few places (and people) you can enter, sit back, 

say, "Do what you think suits me.", 

and not get a rude shock after.

Because, important to maintain hair health as much as possible even while trying to achieve gorgeous colours (that usually require a bit of lightening/bleaching).

All while Danson keeps track of the lightener's progress.

I am in love with the colours.

Not much to rave about nails-wise (because I didn't leave the nail artist with much to work with anyway: nail-biting and nail-plucking habit, the worst), but Winnie did a lovely job with making my nails look a whole lot more presentable now than they ever were.

All done while I was waiting for the lightener+colour to set.

Back at 99 Percent Hair Studio - joining the grey hair bandwagon (a tad late)

It's been a while since I visited the favorite salon,

and what better time to go than when the green hair (yes green hair) for a show has faded into a sea of algae/yellowness.

Meet algae hair:

A quick blow-dry/de-tangling and assessment by the favorite stylist (hello again Danson!).

Every visit to 99 Percent Katong is a sit-back-and-relax session where I switch off the overworked brain and leave Danson to decide what best to do for my hair that day.
Always a good thing when you can trust your stylist's taste and skills!

Olaplex goodness is mixed into the bleach (to make the bleaching less damaging/more gentle).

Lovely touch!

Touching up the roots with a darker shade of grey before moving on to the rest of the hair.

Danson took care to not bleach my newly-grown (and still healthy) roots, to preserve the (little) health that's left in my head of hair. The darker shade of grey he picked for my roots helped soften the colour contrast between the bleached and unbleached portions of my hair.

Sorry hair, for all the mistreatment I've put you through.

Rest of the hair gets a touch of grey

- Pencil grey!

Thoughtful Danson reminded me that it's easy to overlook the maintenance of grey hair.

Grey fades quickly, especially with heat. If not washed with the right shampoo, grey quickly turns brassy and takes on a brown/orange-tinge instead.

Tips for maintaining grey hair:

* Wash hair with cold water, shampooing every 2 days instead of daily.

* Avoid styling tongs and other hair styling things that generate too much heat

(hair-dryers are fine).

* Wash with blue/purple shampoo!

Blue/purple shampoo has purple dye mixed in,

to balance out the brassiness that tends to set in otherwise.

Thanks to the Pravana shampoo, I think my grey has been going pretty well!

I went a step further and got myself purple conditioner meant for blonde/grey/highlighted hair.

(This article was quite helpful in helping me pick the purple conditioner I wanted.)

Pravana's purple shampoo smells great and leaves my hair feeling quite soft after a wash.
I'm also loving the purple conditioner I got from Beauty Language (RPR Brighten My Blonde) that leaves my hair even softer after.

The hair's previous purple has all washed out, leaving blonde streaks behind.

It's about time for a colour renewal!

Back at 99 Percent Hair Studio: Revivre Party at Katong MODA

It's been a while since I last visited the favourite hair place, and what better time to visit than during a scalp treatment party? 

To celebrate the launch of Revivre hair products at the salon, 99 Percent Hair Studio (Katong MODA) organised a complimentary scalp detox spa experience for customers last Sunday, featuring products from the new Revivre series (now available exclusively at Katong MODA!).

Cupcakes, tarts and drinks for customers while they pamper themselves with a free scalp detox treatment.

Can't say no to good service!

The 60-minute Scalp Detox Spa starts off with a Scalp Microscopic Analysis, to better understand your scalp and customise the treatment to suit your needs. 

I have dry and irritable skin (eczema runs in the family) and sometimes get bad bouts of dandruff attacks. 

The scalp analysis gave me and the therapist a good look at my scalp condition, and she then made tweaks to the treatment process to help tackle my scalp issues.

It's always good to know that treatments at 99 Percent are done right, not the generic leave-in conditioners that can be done yourself at home!

Danson stepped in after the scalp analysis to start the next step: Relaxation.

You're probably thinking, "What? Relaxation?"

For the next 5 minutes or so, Danson gives me a relaxing scalp massage meant to rid the facial muscles of tension and prepare the scalp so it better absorbs the essential oils that are part of the detox treatment.

Won't say no to massages!

After the 5-min relaxation step, Detoxification!

The treatment commences with a mixture applied directly on the scalp. The Revivre line features a blend of essential oils specially selected to produce the best results in scalp treatment. 

Doesn't hurt that they smell great too!

The scalp is then covered with a cap and towel for 10 minutes, to let the mixture do its magic and rid your scalp of toxins and impurities.

Meanwhile, a shoulder and scalp massage.

While waiting for the mixture to set in, you get another round of massage, with organic lemongrass massage oil to soothe your neck and shoulders. There's also another scalp massage to improve blood circulation and enhance the treatment results.

Really can't say no to massages during hair treatments. Definitely value for money!

Because I have dry and irritable scalp, a coat of clay meant to soothe my itchy scalp was applied earlier in the process. 

Kelly came by to apply a mixture that would soften the hardened clay before the final hair wash.

It's great to know that extra steps are taken to customise the treatment to individual customers!

Almost done with the treatment, and an SLES-free Enfant shampoo is applied and massaged onto the scalp to cleanse the skin and hair. 

A scalp and hair PH balancing product (containing essential oils) is then applied after the hair wash.

15 minutes later, a comfortable hot towel is placed on my shoulder to calm any tense muscles, and Tian massages another round of essential oils (another product!) onto my scalp. 

I get another round of scalp analysis to show me the difference after the treatment,

and I'll spare you the details (it concerns hair follicles and pores) by just saying it works!

I didn't have to worry about having a messy head of hair after the scalp detox treatment because of the final step: Blowout.

I got my hair blown straight. Another friend got hers curled and ready for her next meeting with friends. 

Always a plus to have pretty (and great-smelling) hair for a day out!
